To the north of Tulum lies the well known vacation towns of Playa del Carmen and Cancun. A ferry to the east from Playa del Carmen will bring you to the beautiful Island of Cozumel.

Tulum's short distance from Cancun and the surrounding Riviera Maya has made it a very popular Maya tourist site in the Yucatan. To many tourists amazement, this area had very little to no tourism prior to the late 20th century at which time along with nearby Cancun the area exploded with tourist development.

Tourism continued to advance in the 21st century allowing tourist to taking advantage of the breathtaking views, sites, and ruins Tulum has to offer. A great number of cenotes exist in the Tulum area including but not limited to the Temple of Doom, Tortuga, Vacaha, Maya Blue, Naharon, Grand Cenote, Abejas, Nohoch Kiin and Carwash cenotes and cave systems.

The tourist destination is basically divided into four areas which include the archaeological sites, the town, the hotel zone, and the biosphere reserve of Sian Ka'an. The Tulum ruins are the third most visited archaeological site in Mexico, after only Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan.

The climate here is nearly perfect and so is the geography. An area where the crystal white sand meets the turquoise ocean and tourism is booming. Tulum makes the ideal spot for vacation and features a nearly endless list of all inclusive hotels and vacation packages ideal everyone. Tulum's close proximity to Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Cancun, and the entire Riviera Maya region makes Tulum an ideal vacation spot.
